  • De Novo Law charges a standard hourly rate of $250 for time spent on a case by the attorney.  Work done by legal staff is billed at $150 an hour.  All time is billed in 6-minute increments (1/10th of an hour).

    Certain clients may be eligible for a reduced hourly rate. Contact De Novo Law to find out how to request a needs-based custom hourly rate.

  • Certain cases and services qualify for a one-time, flat-fee payment.  The flat fee covers all attorney and non-attorney work on the project.  This allows clients to know exactly how much their attorney's fee will cost.

    Flat fee services start at $500; most clients will not pay more than $1,000 for a flat fee case.

  • Fixed monthly fee clients pay a fixed amount every month for the work done on their case. The fixed rate covers all work done on the client’s case by the attorney and any non-attorney staff during that month, and is guaranteed not to change for a 12-month period.  This arrangement helps clients by providing a predictable cost for litigation services provided by the attorney.

    Most individual clients can expect their fixed fee to cost between $750 and $1,500 per month.

    Most small and mid-sized businesses can expect to their fixed fee to cost between $1,000 and $3,000 per month.

  • Contingency fee clients pay no attorney fees unless the firm secures a settlement or wins their case in court. If the firm wins the case or secures a settlement, the firm takes a percentage of the amount paid to the client. If the case is unsuccessful, the client pays no attorney fees.

    Typical contingency fees range from 30% to 40% of the total settlement amount or jury award before any deductions are applied.

  • Not all cases or clients will qualify for every fee option. Factors considered in determining eligibility and rate amounts include (but are not limited to):

    • the case type and complexity;

    • the venue’s (courthouse) location;

    • the amount of travel required (if any);

    • the amount of time needed to represent the client;

    • the number of parties in a case; and

    • the amount of firm resources required to represent the client adequately.

    While prospective clients may request a certain fee type or specific rate, eligibility for a specific rate or fee arrangement is determined by the firm in its sole discretion.

    The firm reserves the right to request advanced fees from clients and to impose penalties for non-payment or late payment of fees.  The firm also reserves the right to withdraw from a case if a client fails to make timely payments.

    State ethics rules require the firm to bill third-party charges (such as court reporter charges, court fees, and expert witness bills) to the client.   Charges from third-parties are billed in addition to the fees charged for attorney and non-attorney work performed by the firm.
